The facility is a 6,000 square foot small animal hospital. As the name implies, it is a 'safe haven' for your pet. The hospital is built around a nautical theme including a large porch, a pond in the front yard and a wetland preserve on the site. The Hospital is a blueprint for hospitals in the new millennium boasting laser surgery, ultrasound, a dental suite, intensive care, laboratory, digital medical hookups to specialists, endoscopy, dog runs with flushing drains, and extremely comfortable surroundings for our clients, patients and staff.
A complete fire prevention sprinkler system is included in the building. This sprinkler system provides extra fire protection for pets that are hospitalized or boarding at Belle Haven Animal Medical Centre.
Dr Schutt, owner and veterinarian, opened Old Town Veterinary Hospital, located on North Henry Street, Alexandria in 1980. OTVH developed into a large veterinary hospital with six full time veterinarians, a support staff of seventeen and taking care of over thousands of dogs and cats every year. Dr Schutt then opened The Beacon Hill Cat Hospital located on Richmond Highway, south of Old Town, in 1990. He sold both practices in 1996 to a large corporation.
However, as many arrangements of this type seem to be going, Dr Schutt felt the care given to both clients and patients was not the best they could receive. He decided to leave OTVH and open BHAMC. Belle Haven offers high-tech medical and surgical care with a family type atmosphere.
